Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, a vocal proponent of pandemic mitigation measures, announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said on Tuesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms. The billionaire philanthropist further said that he would isolate himself until he is again healthy.

"I'm fortunate to be vaccinated and boosted and have access to testing and great medical care," Gates wrote. The Seattle-based Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the most influential private foundation globally, with an endowment of about $65 billion.
Gates will have to miss the Gates Foundation meeting that was congregating physically for the first time in two years since the pandemic. Gates said that he would be joining them virtually and said, "I am lucky to be on Teams to see everyone and thank them for their hard work."
 
Gates has been a vocal proponent of pandemic mitigation measures, specifically for the access to vaccines and medication for poorer countries. The Gates Foundation in October said it would spend $120 million to boost access to generic versions of drugmaker Mercks antiviral COVID-19 pill for lower-income countries.
“People travel more, we are invading natural habitat, it is very likely that in the next 20 years we will have another pandemic. We need to have that readiness so that every country can stop the outbreak before it goes global or at least limit the deaths like the very best countries did this time around,” Gates, who has come up with a book on How to Prevent the Next Pandemic, said.
