If the stupendous popularity of PUBG is any yardstick, online gaming in India has come of age. In fact, the last decade has seen millions of gaming enthusiasts glued to Farmville and Candy Crush on Facebook and go crazy over app-based games like the Clash of Clans.
According to a report by KPMG & Google, the online gaming market in India will be worth USD 1 billion with 310 million active gamers by the year 2021. The growth will come on the back of rising disposable incomes, increased smartphone penetration backed by dependable internet connections.
This will also mean domestic gaming companies will have to literally up the game by focusing on creating an ecosystem in India as well as create avenues to monetise the content and capitalise on the gaming craze in both urban and rural markets, across the language spectrum.
