Conversations around mental health have become more pertinent and increasingly visible. But these conversations are always shadowed by the stigma that persists across borders, cultures and community. That’s where Bengaluru-based startup Wysa steps up by creating mental health wellness app.
Here’s the highlight – the app is doing away with the most difficult step, the pressure of talking to a stranger. In fact you don’t have to talk to a person at all, instead, Wysa is powered by an ‘emotionally intelligent’ AI-based bot, and users can open up in intuitive text messaging format.
Trust me, this is one of those few times when artificial intelligence sounds more comforting than threatening. Co-founded by the husband-wife duo in 2015, Jo Aggarwal and Ramakant Vempati, Wysa’s chatbot is emotionally intelligent and reacts to the emotions you express or convey. Their primary goal is to help reduce friction, increase access and provide early intervention at scale.
So far, the app has witnessed 80 million conversations by nearly 1.2 million users around the world, of which 20 percent are from India. Find out how this duo is turning Wysa into your 4 am friend and life coach.
