India seeing an uptick in deep tech startups: Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan

Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan on Thursday said the number of startups from deep tech space is increasing in the country.

The Infosys Science Awards were institutionalised with the purpose of recognising research work that can make an impact on the world. India spends less than one percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on research and development (R&D), while South Korea spends over 4 percent and China a little over 2 percent.

To discuss the roadmap for how science, research and technology can address India’s challenges and drive social good, CNBC-TV18's Shereen Bhan is in conversation with Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys; Professor Sunita Sarawagi from IIT-Bombay; Arvind, professor at MIT (Jury Chair, Infosys Prize 2019, Johnson Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
