4G spectrum auction: Telecom companies expected to look at selective bidding

Updated : December 17, 2020 10:20:50 IST

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the auctioning of 4G telecom spectrum in seven frequency bands between 700 megahertz and 2,500 megahertz. The auction will be scheduled for March 2021 and will have a validity of 20 years. The government expects to rake in Rs 3.9 lakh crore at the reserve price.

The telecom companies are expected to bid for spectrum where licenses are going to expire in 2021. They could also look at selectively topping up in areas where they see some capacity constraint.

CNBC-TV18’s Reema Tendulkar has all the details on how telecom companies are likely to bid for the spectrum auctions.
