Updated : September 12, 2019 08:50 PM IST

In 1999, when programmer Jeff Dean joined Google, he was one of its earliest employees. Currently working as a senior fellow in Google's research group, Jeff has co-founded and leads the Google Brain team, a deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) research group. At Google's Artificial Intelligence Summit 2019, Megha Vishwanath spoke with Dean to find out more about the future of AI, how it is disrupting the reality as we know it and if it has boiled down to China versus the US game.

"There are lots of things to be excited about AI as it can resolve important societal problems. For example, in India we are doing trials in collaboration with Aravind Eye Hospital and Sankara Eye Hospital to deploy our diabetic retinopathy system to help screen patients. The use of AI and machine learning can predict floods better. We are working on predictions for the Ganges and Brahmaputra river basins," Dean said.
