As the premium smartphone maker OnePlus is all set to launch OnePlus TV on September 26, its co-founder Carl Pei on Tuesday said the company wants to offer best products at reasonable prices in India.
In an interview with Network18's Anuradha Sengupta at CNBC-TV18's special event - Marquee Nights, Pei said, "There are fewer companies who make smartphones and focused on one category. Typically they create everything after a while. So, it required a lot of discipline and six years before trying a new category. We still see the TV category as more of an experiment. Our focus is still on smartphones."
He said, "Here in India, we are seeing a leapfrog in technology. Some people are going from their big cathode-ray tube (CRT) TVs, some are skipping the flat-screen TVs and going directly to smart TVs. So, we see a huge trend in Indian the market. We think that we can apply some of the philosophy when it comes to the products, in creating some of the best products and then pricing it at a reasonable price and apply it into the TV market. After having so much experience in smartphones and the user experience, we have a lot of new ideas on how we can bridge the user experience between these two form factors."
