Here is the first look at Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

Updated : October 12, 2018 06:18 PM IST

Google on Tuesday officially took the veils off Pixel 3 and a bigger Pixel 3 XL smartphone to take on the likes of flagship devices by Apple and Samsung.

Interesting enough the tech giant started by acknowledging the numerous internet leaks and the fact that there is very little left to unveil.

What's New?
The Pixel 3 and 3 XL both feature larger screens than last year’s models. The bezels have been slimmed down and the older XL cousin sports a notched display.

Larger Display

The Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch display as opposed to a 6-inch screen on the 2 XL. The more compact Pixel 3 sports a 5.5-inch again as compared to a 5-inch display on its predecessor.

Wireless Charging Support, Finally!

Well, for the first time Google has thrown in wireless charging support and the tech giant has introduced its own charging stand - the Pixel Stand. Correct! Pixel Stand can also turn these Pixel 3 devices into digital frames which means you can display your favorite photos on your phone. That’s kinda cool!

Design: Function Over Form

In terms of ergonomics, both the devices feel more compact, in fact, almost the same as the 2017 editions.

Camera: The Big Talking Point

In terms of camera, Google is still loyal to a single rear camera on both phones and the company has not given in to the dual-camera or even triple camera trend. But flip the phone over and you will see that both the Pixel 3 and 3 XL have two front-facing camera sensors.

Having tested both the previous generation of smartphone, I can safely say that the Pixel series packs in the best cameras. Period. I cannot wait to put the third generation’s AI capabilities to test, stay tuned for updates.

Under The Hood

Pixel 3 series runs on the latest Android 9 Pie which means, you can say hello to new navigation gestures. This year, we saw Google talk and highlight its software capabilities, way more than the hardware itself – classic function over form style of Google.

The pixel devices will help you search more of what you see with Google Lens which will offer in-camera Lens suggestions. Keeping the digital security conscious users in mind, Google announced the Titan M,  a custom-made, built-in security chip on the Pixel 3.
