Startup Street: Facebook backs Unacademy, Railyatri expands SmartBus network

Microsoft will be successful in India, only if Indian companies grow, this was the categorical message from its CEO Satya Nadella, who is in Mumbai to meet the Indian industry representatives. Speaking to CNBC-TV18’s Shereen Bhan, Nadella said every Indian company is heading towards digitisation.

Speaking about India’s push to ensure data localisation and protect privacy, Nadella said Microsoft will abide by all the rules laid down by India.

Edtech startup Unacademy raised $110 million in funding with Facebook, General Atlantic and its existing investors. The fresh funding round marks Facebook's second investment in the Indian startup ecosystem. CNBC-TV18 caught up with Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook India, and Co-founder and CEO of Unacademy Gaurav Munjal to know more about the social media major's investment strategy and what made Unacademy an exciting proposition.

Set up in 2014, RailYatri is a startup that helps simplify rail travel. Its bus fleet brand ‘IntrCity by RailYatri’ has now raised Rs 100 crore, led by Nandan Nilekani and Samsung Venture Investment, that's come on board as a strategic investor. This round also saw participation from other existing investors, Omidyar Network and Blume Ventures. The intercity mobility startup has so far raised a total of $30 million. Manish Rathi, CEO and Co-founder, IntrCity by RailYatri,  speaks about raising and allocating funds.
