PV Sindhu has become the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Badminton World Championships. Sindhu beat Japan's Oku-Hara in the finals in straight games in just over 30 minutes.
Sindhu is now the winner of two bronze medals, two silver medals and a gold. She has won the most medals by any player at the World Championships.
In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18's Meha Bharadwaj, Sindhu talked about her historic victory. “It is a great moment for me and I am really very proud. Finally I got this. Definitely, I have changed a lot game-wise. I have been really working on my skills and physical fitness,” she said.
Speaking about dedicating this win to mother, she said: “My mother was really very happy and it was a big surprise for her. After the match, when I told her about my victory, she was on the verge of tears.”
