At the corner of 6th and H street of Washington DC, is a new Starbucks 'Sign Language' store.
It is Starbucks' first signing store in USA. The store is modelled after its signing store in Kuala Lumpur that was opened in 2016.
All the employees in this store are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
This store also includes artwork and designs on mugs created by deaf artists. Customers can write or sign their order on the tablet system of the store
When the order is ready, a screen will flash the customer's name. The staff also has green aprons embroidered with the ASL finger spelling of Starbucks and the ones with no hearing aid wear the traditional apron with 'I sign' pins.
The store has a lot of open spaces as well as anti-glare surfaces. It is located near Gallaudet University. It is world's only university with a curriculum for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
