International players make a beeline for India in luxury hospitality segment

Updated : December 06, 2018 06:37 AM IST

The Indian tourism and hospitality industry has emerged as one of the key drivers of growth in the services sector. During April 2000-June 2018, the hotel and tourism sector attracted around $ 11.39 billion of FDI (foreign direct investment), according to the data released by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). But domestic players are losing ground to international biggies in the luxury segment.

Why is India still a marginal player for international luxury tourist and what needs to be done to take up our share of this high-end hospitality in Asia? To discuss this Manisha Natarajan is in conversation with Aashica Khanna, VP operations, IHHR Hospitality; Dipak Deva, managing director, Travel Corporation India; Kapil Chopra, former president, The Oberoi Group of Hotels; and Achin Khanna, managing partner, Hotelivate.
