The much-awaited first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is here. After months of intensive campaigning by political parties, it's over to the voters now. On the 11th of April, electorate across 91 constituencies in 20 states and union territories will decide the fate of 1,279 candidates.
Andhra Pradesh will be the biggest battleground in this phase of general elections, with 25 seats at stake. The state will be followed by its neighbour Telangana, where voting will take place across 17 constituencies. In Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, voters will exercise their franchise across eight and seven seats, respectively in the first phase.Phase-1 of Lok Sabha polls
- 93 percent candidates are men and only seven percent are women.
- 53 percent candidates are from the 41 to 60 years age bracket.
- 49 percent have educational qualification of graduation or above.
- On the wealth front, the largest chunk of 33 percent comes from the below Rs 10 lakh bracket.
