India is gearing up for the 17th Lok Sabha elections which will be conducted in seven phases starting from April 11. The chief election commission on Sunday announced that the elections will be conducted in seven phases across the country with the final vote count being held on May 23.
As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Law and Order in October 1979, the Centre bears the cost of the Lok Sabha election fully.
While in 1952, it cost around Rs 10.5 crore, in the last Lok Sabha election in 2014, the government spent almost Rs 3,870.3 crore.
