Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of late DMK leader M Karunanidhi, on Tuesday said that under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government unemployment rates are hitting an all-time high.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18's Jude Sannith, she said, "Tamil Nadu government has had two global investors meet, but we haven’t heard of any single investment coming into Tamil Nadu after these two investor meets. They keep saying they have signed MoUs and nothing has really come out of it."
She further said, "There are no job opportunities and people really are desperate. Every village you go to, every town you visit, there are families which say that I have daughters and sons who are educated and who are not able to find jobs anywhere in this country, so that is a very big issue. When you talk about Tamil Nadu and Tuticorin, water scarcity is rampant. How can a person in a village afford to pay Rs 10 for one pot of water and buy water every day? These issues are not being addressed at all."
Kanimozhi will be contesting from Tuticorin Lok Sabha constituency in southern Tamil Nadu. Her Rajya Sabha term will come to an end in July.
