Updated : December 11, 2019 07:53 PM IST

The Rajya Sabha is debating the Citizenship Amendment Bill today. The contentious bill seeks to provide citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh escaping religious persecution.

Protests against the bill have intensified in the North Eastern states - the administration has already imposed Section 144 in several parts of Assam.
