Updated : August 21, 2018 08:21 PM IST

Madras HC ordered CBSE to publicise 'No homework' up to class 2 rule in the media and stringent action will be taken against institutes not following the rule.

The order was passed by Justice N Kirubakaran on a plea seeking direction to CBSE to follow only syllabus and books prescribed by NCERT.

CBSE stated that the board has already issued circulars to the schools in 2004 and 2016. The circulars stated there should be no homework assigned to students up to  class 2 and these students need not carry school bags.

CBSE reiterated that schools should reduce the load of homework given to students from classes 1-8.
