India's fastest train- Train 18 is likely to be launched soon between New Delhi and Varanasi.
CNBC-TV18’s Anu Sharma caught up with the general manager of Integral Coach Factory, Sudhanshu Mani. Here's what Mani said about the launch plans and the way forward:
“When we designed a train for 160 kilometers per hour (km/h), it has to be tested at 10 percent high speed. That is why we tested the train at marginally above 180 and it ran very well. If it is introduced on the Delhi-Varanasi sector, upto Allahabad, the speed is limited to 130 km/h and later to 110 km/h or 120 km/h. Although it will not run at 160 km/h, because of faster acceleration, faster braking and other features, it will exploit the infrastructure better than existing trains and the travel time shall be cut down,” said Mani.
“We are planning to make two more in this financial year and 7-8 more in the next financial year. The two sisters of Train 18, one is Mainline MEMU and other is AC EMU for Mumbai area and later other places,” he added.
