Train 18 is regarded as a successor to the 30-year-old Shatabdi Express.

Train 18 is regarded as a successor to the 30-year-old Shatabdi Express. It is developed in a record of time of 18 months and driven by a self-propulsion module sans a separate locomotive.
It has a maximum speed of 160 km/hr with technical features for enhanced quick acceleration. Train 18 will cut travel time by around 15 percent compared to Shatabdi.
It consists of 16 coaches with a seating capacity of 1,128 and 2 executive class compartments with 52 seats each. The trailer coaches have 78 seats each.
It includes features like on-board Wi-Fi infotainment, diffused lighting, automatic doors, gps-based passenger information system, bio-vacuum toilets, charging points, individual touch-based reading lights, PWD friendly facilities, CCTV cameras, rotating seats and modern pantry & food service facilities.
The estimated cost of Train 18 is Rs 100 crore per rake.
