Railways introduced the flexi-fare scheme in September 2016 for 44 Rajdhanis, 46 Shatabdis and 52 Durontos.
The fare increased by 10 percent as every 10 percent of berths was occupied with a cap of 1.5 times of the base fare.
The decision to tweak the flexi-fare scheme was taken on October 31. However, it was not implemented due to changes required in the ticketing system's software.
The revised flexi-fares for Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi will now be applicable from March 15, 2019.Under the revised structure, the cap has been reduced from 1.5 to 1.4 times the base fare.
The flexi-fare for 15 trains have been cancelled, which include trains like Kalka-New Delhi, New Delhi-Ludhiana and Dibrugarh-Guwahati Shatabdis.
The flexi-fare for 32 trains during the lean months of February, March and August will be removed. These trains include Bilaspur-New Delhi and Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhanis, Pune-Secunderabad, New Delhi-Amritsar, Kathgodam-Anand Vihar and Ranchi-Howrah Shatabdis.
