Indian railways records 'zero passenger deaths' in the last 11 months

For the first time in 166 years, Indian Railways has reported the best ever safety record (fy19-20). It has recorded ‘zero passenger deaths' in the last 11 months. According to a statement issued by Indian Railways, 'from April 1, 2019, to February 24, 2020, there has been no fatality of any railway passenger in any consequential railway accident'.

Indian Railways has taken several safety measures that include the renewal of railway tracks, monitoring of safety aspects improvements in signalling system and use of modern tech for safety works. It also worked towards the total elimination of unmanned level crossing gates. The safety measures were undertaken as a part of Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh that was introduced in 2017-18.
