Andhra Pradesh gets India's longest electrified rail tunnel

India's longest electrified rail tunnel has been constructed in Andhra Pradesh and it is shaped like a horseshoe. Situated between Cherlopalli and Rapuru stations in Andhra Pradesh, the tunnel is 6.6 kilometres long and has been built at a cost of Rs 460 crore.

The tunnel is a part of the 113-km long Obulavaripalli - Venkatachalam railway line. The line facilitates the transport of goods from Krishnapatnam Port and has reduced the distance between the port and hinterlands by 60 kilometres.
