India should be prepared for a H-1B Visa curtailment program, says Shyam Saran

Updated : April 24, 2020 06:23 AM IST

Former foreign secretary Shyam Saran on Thursday said India should be prepared for a curtailment of the H-1B Visa program.

NASSCOM, in a statement, has made a case for a big chunk of Indian IT professionals to keep under the exempt category.

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning new green card applications for 60 days. However, medical and essential services personnel are exempt. The American government said it will review other non-immigrant visas including H-1B Work visas over the next 30 days.

It says IT workers who keep critical infrastructure like hospitals and online education operating fall under essential personnel category.
