The government is getting ready to begin the nationwide vaccine rollout. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the mass vaccination drive tomorrow via video conferencing, connecting over 3,000 vaccination sites across the country.

The list of frontline workers who will be inoculated on the first day has already been uploaded to the CoWIN platform - the platform designed to track and monitor the vaccine delivery system from storage and transport to delivery as well as patient follow ups.

The vaccine will be administered at the sites from 9 am to 5 pm and the government expects around 100 people to get inoculated at each centre.

The aim is to vaccinate 3 crore frontline workers and 27 crore people above the age of 50 and those with co-morbidities, in the first phase.

For this purpose the Election Commission has agreed to share electoral roll data with the home ministry to identify people above the age of 50 in each state.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has sent a comprehensive factsheet on Covishield and Covaxin to all states and immunisation officers.

The ministry has clarified that only people who are 18 years and above would be eligible for the doses. To discuss the preparations, Shereen Bhan spoke to Dr. Samiran Panda of ICMR and Dr. JA Jayalal, president of IMA.
