As India’s vaccination programme draws to a close, Tamil Nadu said it has vaccinated a total of 4.14 lakh frontline workers, including over 3 lakh healthcare personnel. But the bigger challenge that the state sees in phase-2 of the COVID-19 vaccination programme is vaccine avoidance.
CNBC-TV18’s Jude Sannith spoke exclusively with Tamil Nadu's health secretary.
"Tamil Nadu’s problem is slightly different from the other parts of the country. Tamil Nadu and a few other states where there is a bit of wait and watch policy. So, 60 percent of the healthcare workers have been vaccinated. Frontline workers whether it is police, revenue or local bodies they are also, compared to other parts of the country -- we are behind,” said J Radhakrishnan.
