Non-COVID business has fallen significantly, says Dr Lal Pathlabs

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, hospitals are facing issues of reduced cash flow and low occupancy while some private labs are struggling with COVID-19 test price caps.

Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, MD and CEO of Fortis Healthcare, and Om Manchanda, CEO of Dr Lal Pathlabs, discussed these issues with CNBC-TV18.

"The non-COVID-19 business has got disrupted due to this lockdown and hospitals have seen a sudden fall in patient volumes. As an industry, Dr Lal Pathlabs is doing this test on a cost basis. There are a lot of challenges, hopefully the industry will come out of this soon," said Manchanda.

"Overall aggregated occupancy levels are around 30-35 percent in most of the hospitals, which gets transferred in the revenues and that does not cover the fixed cost of the company. That causes a little of stress. Recovery in terms of occupancy level is expected to start moving up from next month itself," Raghuvanshi added.
