Dr Rijo M John, health economist and guest faculty at IIM Kozhikode, on Wednesday said in another couple of days, India can expect COVID-19 cases over 1 lakh plus per day.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18's Shereen Bhan, John said, "The daily case growth in India has been reducing a little bit over this week. However, as the base is very high now, even at 2 percent rate, you are seeing 93,000 cases per day. My calculations show that we are going to see the number rising again in the coming days and I think the next 1 million could be here in about 10 days’ time."
John further said that states like Goa, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh are seeing decline in daily tests per million per day. However, test positivity rate is increasing in these states. This includes both the Rapid Antigen and RT PCR tests, despite combining these, the combined number of daily tests is going down and that is not a good thing at all."
