India's coronavirus count is now closer to 5.5 lakh cases after adding nearly 19,500 cases in the last 24 hours, health ministry data as of 8 am on Monday suggest. Over 3 lakh patients have recovered and over 2 lakh are currently infected. With 380 deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall toll is now closer to 16,500.

So, where does India stand in the coronavirus curve and what is the way forward? To discuss this, Shereen Bhan spoke to Dr. Randeep Guleria, director of AIIMS.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu remain the worst affected states. Karnataka saw over 1,200 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day spike in the state. Telangana has been reporting close to 1,000 cases almost every day since it ramped up testing.

India took 139 days to reach 1 lakh cases. Since then, it has taken 43 days to go from 1 lakh to over 5 lakh cases. In fact, over 1 lakh cases have been added in just the last 7 days.
