The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das headed six-member rate-setting panel is expected to announce policy rates in its last monetary policy for the current financial year.
The MPC, which began its three-day meeting on February 4, will announce its decision on its key lending rates -- repo rate and the reverse repo -- on February 6. What can we expect?
According to a poll conducted by CNBC-TV18's Ritu Singh, 100 percent of the respondents expect the central bank to maintain the status quo. Inflation is hovering above 7 percent and the RBI did hold fire in the December policy as well after six consecutive rate cuts.
Tomorrow's policy aside, what does the street expect for 2020? A 40 percent of those polled expect 25 basis points cut, 30 percent expect no further rate cuts, 20 percent expect a 15 basis point cut and 10 percent expect the repo rate to be cut by 50 basis points.
But will RBI spring a surprise? CNBC-TV1's Latha Venkatesh seems to think so. Here's why.
