After India hiked customs duty on several goods, including Bengal gram, lentils and artemia, imported from the United States, Meera Shankar, former Indian envoy to United States, said that tariffs give country some leverage in trade talks with America.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, she said India should wait and see how negotiations with United States go before putting tariffs in to effect.
Shankar said United States want more access to open markets and not many motorcycles were imported in to India.
Earlier today, India has excluded American-sourced motorcycles from import duty hike.
