Swadeshi Jagran Manch welcomes India's decision to opt out of RCEP

Updated : November 05, 2019 05:35 PM IST

The Indian government's decision to not join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world's largest free trade agreement, has been cheered by Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an RSS-affiliated organisation.

While given his take on the issue, Ashwani Mahajan, National Co-convener  of Swadeshi Jagran Manch said: “I would say that India would have lost heavily by joining the pact. This was an agreement among 16 countries, 10 were Asian countries, and the bigger elephant in the room was China. We already have a free trade agreement with ASEAN, we have free trade agreement with Japan and South Korea. A free trade agreement is being negotiated with New Zealand and Australia. The only country with whom we never wanted to have any free trade agreement is China. Beijing has been dumping goods, we have been suffering badly because of this.”
