Steel ministry calls for a re-look into imports, anti-dumping norms

Updated : June 11, 2019 08:58 PM IST

Dharmendra Pradhan-led steel ministry has reached out to the commerce ministry asking for a re-look into the norms that govern the import of the commodity into India.

They have called for a re-look into the anti-dumping norms as well.

Steel ministry is of the view that the current anti-dumping duties are ineffective and are based on outdated reference price.

There is a need to review customs rules and India needs to move away from lesser duty rule. Trade through free trade agreement (FTA) are heavily imbalanced and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a major concern due to the presence of China.
