Indianomics: Decoding the fiscal packages from the finance ministry

Updated : May 18, 2020 06:32 PM IST

The 5-episode fiscal package from the finance ministry is done and the verdict from the economists and the markets is sombre. GDP forecasts for the current year for India now lie between -3 to -5 percent, a contraction our generation hasn’t ever seen.

Is the fiscal policy missing the point or has it delivered? What is the space left for Reserve Bank of India (RBI)? And finally is it unlocking the agricultural market and other reforms in mining going to help at all? For these and other questions CNBC-TV18’s Latha Venkatesh is in conversation with a panel of economists, Samiran Chakraborty, Chief Economist at Citi, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group CEA of SBI and Sonal Varma, Chief India Economist at Nomura.
