Rajya Sabha recently cleared the Citizenship Amendment Bill in India that provides citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. But do you know the number of international migrants in India?
The country hosted 51 lakh, international migrants, in 2019, according to UN’s International Migrant Stock 2019. Migrants constituted 0.4 percent of the total Indian population.
The highest number of migrants came from Bangladesh (over 30 lakh), followed by Pakistan (over 10 lakh) and Nepal (over 5 lakh). The female population was at 48.8 percent among the migrants in India. Apart from this, India also hosted 207,000 refugees in 2019.
