India does not want to rush into a trade deal with US

Updated : February 20, 2020 06:30 AM IST

India doesn't want to rush into a trade deal with the United States and the focus will be on reinstating the generalised system of preferences (GSP) for the country, government sources said.

The GSP is the largest and oldest US trade preference programme and is designed to promote economic development by allowing duty-free entry for products from designated beneficiary countries.

According to sources, US Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer will be travelling to India with President Donald Trump next week.
