Hockey World Cup 2018: "Oneness Of Humanity" enthralled audiences at the opening ceremony

The men's Hockey World Cup 2018 was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, conveying a powerful message of "oneness of humanity." The opening ceremony included performances by Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit and renowned music composer A R Rahman.
The ceremony showcased first-of-its-kind theatrical production - The Earth Song, which beautifully depicted the theme of the ceremony. Written and directed by Nupur Mahajan, it featured Madhuri as the central character, Mother Earth.
Rahman brought to life his and Gulzar Saheb's composition Jai Hind Jai India' with a live performance, which is the official song and tune of the World Cup.
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who once played a hockey team coach in the movie Chak De! India, recalled his days playing the sport. "I did play a little bit of hockey in school and college. I used to play as a centre forward, and right opposite me was obviously a goalkeeper," he said.
The World Cup was declared open by Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik during the ceremony, which was attended by all 16 captains.
