Less than 24 hours after the ministry of external affairs announced that Sushma Swaraj will have a bilateral meeting with her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 27, India has formally called off these talks on Friday.
The immediate reason is Pakistan government commemorating slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani through stamps. At least 20 postal stamps have been issued to commemorate Wani as a freedom fighter, as a symbol of the plight of the ordinary Kashmiris and this act has angered the Indian government.
The killing of three police officers in Jammu and Kashmir by Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists and mutilation of the body of a BSF jawan show that Pakistan is not serious about talks, sources said.
Sources said talk of dialogue by Pakistan is only on paper and there are no intentions from Islamabad side to end terrorism and terror havens operating across LoC.
