As we celebrate our 19th birthday... take a look at all that happened when India turned 19.

PM Lal Bahadur Shastri and Pakistan President Ayub Khan signed Tashkent declaration formally ending the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

A day after signing the agreement, Lal Bahadur Shastri passed away due to cardiac arrest while still in Tashkent.

The Congress party elected Indira Gandhi as their leader, thereby making her India's first woman Prime Minister.The 18th, 19th and 20th amendments to the constitution happened with the first one leading to the creation of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Reita Faria became the first Indian and also the first Asian to win the 'Miss World' title.

Reliance group was started by Dhirubhai Ambani as a polyester firm, Reliance Textiles Industries.

India won 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals at the commonwealth games held in Kingston, Jamaica.

At the Bangkok Asian Games, India won 7 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze medals to finish 5th in the table.

India devalued the rupee for the first time, taking it from 4.76/$ to 7.50/$ (57% devaluation).
