A whole host of items are listed on the goods and services tax (GST) council’s agenda this time and it is likely to be a power-packed meeting because this will be the first GST Council chaired by the new finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Some of the important issues that'll be discussed includes the consideration for creation of a state and area benches of the GST Tribunal, a detailed discussion on introduction of new electronic invoicing system to curb tax evasion, extension of the tenure of the national anti-profiteering authority which expires this year in December and there will be some SOP measures also for national anti-profiteering, the state venture and state committees etc.
The council will also consider recommendations of the committee of officers on the use of radio-frequency identification (RFID) data for strengthening the e-way bills.
The government will mull on the demand for waiver of interest on delayed receipt of advance user charges. Not just that, there will be a few more agenda items including the information regarding the new return format; the roadmap which was already released by the centre but the centre could not inform the council about it.
