Dos and Don'ts for the monsoons

Here are the do's and don'ts for the monsoons.

1.Avoid travel and stay indoors as far as possible.

2.If travelling, check for water logging & change routes accordingly.

3.While walking through flooded streets, use a stick to gauge if there is an open manhole.

4.Do not stand near any electrical board, pole or tree.

5.Drive only if you see similar vehicles clearing water-logged streets.

6.Disarm the central locking in your car & keep your windows an inch or two open.

7.Do not allow children to play in or near flood waters.

8.Flood water can be contaminated by sewage, oil or chemicals.

9.Before stepping out, make sure your phone is fully charged.

10.Carry an emergency kit with water, food, a torch, first-aid, waterproof clothing.

11.Keep basic tools such as wrench, pliers & plastics ties handy.

12.Keep emergency numbers & those of friends handy.

13.At home, turn off all electrical & gas appliances.

14.Stock up on food, medicines & all essentials as shops & services may be shut.
