Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the government has planned to monetize 100 assets for a target of Rs 2.5 lakh crore under the Asset Monetization Scheme.
He said that the government's motto is to "monetise and modernise" while speaking on various reforms undertaken in this year's Union Budget.
Speaking in an interview to CNBC-TV18, Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Secretary of Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), on Thursday said that 12 ministries are taking up the monetisation process.
“We had DIPAM, NITI Aayog and 12 other ministries which are taking up the programme in the asset monetisation side and which were specifically also mentioned in the budget 2021 speech of honourable Prime Minister,” he said.
Talking about timeframe, Pandey said, “This is a programme with not a single year target, as the Prime Minister mentioned, but a multiyear, medium-term plans in which we have to see the whole privatisation, the privatization of enterprises have to have over a period of time, but the policy has been set clear.”
