Congress' minimum income guarantee scheme, explained

Updated : March 26, 2019 03:21 PM IST

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has unveiled the party's minimum income guarantee scheme, promising Rs 72,000 per year for 20 percent of the poorest families in the country.

The BJP government also unveiled a farm income scheme during the interim Budget announcement.

The difference between the two schemes is that Congress' scheme promises to disburse Rs 6,000 per month to a family while the BJP scheme is Rs 6000 per quarter to a family.

Also, the Congress' scheme is for all poor: urban and rural poor while the BJP's scheme is meant only for rural farmers with land.
