Centre vs central bank: Government hopeful of arriving at a solution at RBI board meet

Updated : November 08, 2018 08:12:21 IST

Amid the ongoing spat between the government and the central bank, centre is hopeful that it will arrive at a resolution in the upcoming Reserve Bank of India (RBI) board meet, sources told CNBC-TV18 on Tuesday.

"Most of the issues were settled in the previous RBI board meet but a decision had not been taken," said a source.

The rift between the two authorities has been growing since the RBI deputy governor Viral Acharya, in a fiery speech, warned that undermining a central bank's independence could be "potentially catastrophic".

Lately, the authorities have aggressively expressed their disagreements with each other over several issues including easing liquidity and promoting credit offtake.
