15th Finance Commission to meet bankers in Mumbai today: Here’s what to expect from the meeting

The 15th Finance Commission headed by its chairman NK Singh, as part of its two-day visit to Mumbai, will be holding meetings with banks and financial institutions today after they met with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials on Wednesday.
The issues of capital, recapitalization of public sector banks, their impact on government’s cost of borrowings as well as the contentious issue of possible scenarios of the Bimal Jalan Committee report on the treatment of RBI surplus capital were some of the key issues that were taken up by the Finance Commission in its May 8 RBI meeting.
Today, in the meeting with the bankers, the issue of bank recapitalisation primarily among others is expected to be brought up again and the meeting with the Finance Commission is likely to be attended by the officials of State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Union Bank of India, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank among a whole host of others.
The meeting is slated to end by 2:30 pm today.
