The celebrated fashion designer Wendell Rodricks passed away at the age of 59 in Goa. Apart from an A-list designer, Rodricks was an author, environmentalist and a gay rights activist.
The sartorialist was born in a Goan Catholic family and grew up in Mumbai. He studied fashion in Los Angeles and Paris. In the 1990s, Rodricks' first collection was showcased that earned him the title of ‘Guru of Minimalism’. He is the pioneer of resort wear and eco-friendly fashion in India.
In 2010, he revived Kunbi sari, the traditional Goan attire. The fashionist played a role in the khadi movement and promoted the movement at Biofach in Germany in 2011. Rodricks presented a collection for plus-size women at 2017 Lakme Fashion Week. Rodricks hung his boots in 2016 and handed over his label to Schulen Fernandes.
