As food startup Zomato focuses on sustainability, it has great expectations of its raw material sourcing and supply business for restaurants.
Chief operating officer and co-founder Gaurav Gupta spells out the reasons for starting HyperPure, learnings from the restaurant backlash to Zomato Gold and why his company is looking to designate more employees as co-founders on Life Etc with Anuradha SenGupta.
Gupta said HyperPure was started with an intent to improve the quality of consumption of food, "We said can we actually at scale procure from farmers, poultry farms, farmer producer organisations directly and supply that within 24 hours to restaurants."
HyperPure is Zomato's second farm-fresh and multi-product warehouse.
"We do kitchen hygiene ratings. We get third party agency to audit kitchens of restaurants and we put a rating on Zomato for users to see. So, it builds some trust. It also is a good forcing function for restaurants to improve their kitchen. So it works both ways," he added.
