Rajiv Mehrishi panel may suggest double interest waiver for small loans

Updated : September 18, 2020 11:30 PM IST

The expert panel appointed by the Narendra Modi government under the chairmanship of former Comptroller and Auditor General Rajiv Mehrishi is set to submit its recommendations on September 19, sources privy to the developments told CNBC-TV18.

According to multiple people familiar with the development, the Rajiv Mehrishi panel may suggest double interest waiver for small loans.

The panel was told to study the impact of waiving off the double interest after the Supreme Court had observed that interest imposed by banks on delayed interest is equal to penalising borrowers for availing moratorium, reports Latha Venkatesh.
