Pidilite’s Bharat Puri says stationery business is impacted as schools remain closed

Updated : December 07, 2020 15:57:20 IST

Bharat Puri, MD of Pidilite Industries, in an interview to CNBC-TV18, said stationery segment is challenged as schools have not been opened yet.

“The children stationary area is challenged and we will wait for the schools to open, but on the other hand hobbies, art, colour, home painting, home projects has jumped massively. So in an overall level the business is little better than COVID levels and the handicraft sector which also uses a lot of these products is still challenged, for us it’s a small business but significant,” he said.

According to him, sectors like construction and leather are coming back but they are coming back much more slowly.

“Construction chemicals ever since June has been amongst our highest growing segments, the whole waterproofing area and it continues to be so. As far as our overall sales is concerned, it is one of the areas we operate in, it contributes 1/5th of our business but it’s growing faster. It’s an area we are happy with and will continue to see action and as the new projects starts coming back this sector will grow even further,” said Puri.

On acquisition, he said, “It’s fully complete and we are now the proud owners of Araldite brand and we are now getting our growth plans ready for this brand too.”
