20 airports under Airports Authority of India (AAI) are planning to go plastic-free.

20 airports under Airports Authority of India (AAI) are planning to go plastic-free. These airports include Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Lucknow, Trivandrum, Bhubaneswar, Kozhikode, Patna, Visakhapatnam, Srinagar, Coimbatore, Amritsar, Indore, Bangalore, Bagdogra, Nagpur, Chennai, Chandigarh and Varanasi.
The airports are targeting Nov-end, except Chennai airport which plans to go plastic-free by Dec-end. The airports plan to install plastic bottle crushing machines and place dustbins at prominent places.
AAI is also looking at other environment-friendly measures like solar power, rain water harvesting and garbage disposal. AAI's executive director (operations) will finalise the inspection procedure for plastic-free airports and seek help from quality council of India.
