The auto sales have been a complete washout in the month of April as they were expected. There are zero domestic sales for the entire sector -- for the first time in the history -- because of the lockdown.
Bajaj Auto too reported zero domestic sales, but it managed to sell about 38,000 units in the export market in April. Rakesh Sharma, ED of Bajaj Auto, said that there is virtually zero demand for vehicles or spare parts.
“In the domestic market, even though 30 percent of our dealerships are now in the green zone and I would say about 50 percent are in green and amber, hardly 2-3 percent of dealerships have opened for various reasons, largely because of the confusion at the local administrator level. So, there is virtually zero domestic demand for either vehicles or spare parts,” he said.
